Okay, I might be kind of obsessed with decorating blogs. I'm confused about if I want my style to be shabby or chic or country or Asian, so I've decided to go with all of the above. One of the best things I've learned from blogging decorators (by the way, none of them seem to be working, single women- it might be my niche in the market) is that you should "shop your house"... re-decorating with only the things already existing in your house. This is not so easy for the girl that was living in a studio apartment just a year and half ago. I don't have a lot of extras. But, I stuck to the rules and feel great about my accomplishment- a totally free master bedroom make-over!
Here is what the master bedroom looked like before I moved in. I do love a good rescue! And here is what it looked like a month after I moved in. A drastic improvement, but it still didn't feel right.
So, I re-arranged the furniture a few months ago and tonight, I "shopped my house" to decorate it. Please notice the icky laminate doors to the closet in the previous picture and the drastic change with the new curtains (I stole the curtains out of my guest room to make this happen). Since I wasn't allowed to even buy curtain rods, I used cable in my basement to hang the curtains. I thought that got creativity points.
I like having some of the antiques that were left behind in my parent's first house. They moved from house to house with my family and now I get to start out with them, too! Plus, I will take anything that is FREE.
Last week I bought this table at Mick's Flea Market in Gas City, IN. It was $25 and perfect for my hallway. But, I think I like it even better next to my bed. I'm also working on the idea of "layering" decor.
This furniture arrangement is so much better. Especially since you don't have to walk around my ginormous bed to get to the bathroom. There's now a nice walkway with my only rug (I'm allergic to carpets, rugs, etc. which is why the floors look so sterile).
I must say that my guest room, hallway and kitchen look a little worse since those were the rooms that I "shopped" in tonight. Hmmm. I'll deal with that later. :) My bed awaits...

You have a gift...your room looks gorgeous!
Seriously, really amazing. Come shop my house. :) And thanks for the shout out to Ava by having her inconspicuously on the bed. :) Love you!
April! Your bedroom looks so beautiful! (The rest of your house is very nice too) This "shop your house" idea is very cool. I should do that in my house at school to make it feel more cozy.
I love the use of your new Green little table... Great buy :)
